A modern payment card owes its appearance to an unpaid dinner.

Although prepaid cards were invented in 1880, the first universal payment card was issued only in 1950. The innovator turned out to be the creator of the company "Club of restaurant regulars" - Frank H. McNamara. One day Frank didn't have enough cash to pay the bill at the restaurant, and he decided to issue a Diners Club payment card.
